Your Golf Club Update - May

Monday 9th May 2022

It feels as if spring has truly arrived now, with sunny days and warmer temperatures!

Golf season is now officially underway and we couldn’t be happier - less rain, hopefully no snow and plenty of golf. We have a huge amount going on in the gym and studios as well as plenty of activities for children. We are so happy to see more of you coming to the events such as our monthly pub quiz, bingo night and our amazing Masters Lounge we recently had set up.

Don’t forget to keep an eye on our website and social media channels to stay updated about all the social events we have planned over the next few months.

Course Report

The greens have recovered really well from early spring renovation in late February.

The new pathways have now been put in place on 10th green to the 11th tee. The 16th tee has been renewed and made a little wider. These have both been replaced with new wood bark.

The 10th tee irrigation has been installed and we are just waiting to repair the drain lines with either turf or grass seed.

All the new next tee signs have been put in place with a nice finishing touch of white stone surrounding them.

We have edged and weeded the bunkers and whilst doing this we put fresh sand in some that were low and de-stoned them. Bunker surrounds have now had an application of slow-release fertiliser. Fairways have all been slit and the tees have been solid tined with a 1/2 inch tine to a depth of four inches.

Our new recruits Mathew and Nick have both settled in really well and are progressing in the right direction. Trees around the course have had a fresh topping up of wood bark.

Plans for the next few weeks will be to carry on with our monthly aerate of greens as well as top dressing them with a really light dusting. Approaches and tees will be sprayed with iron and urea to give them a lovely colour and help them start growing really well. De-stoning of bunkers will continue, and topping up of sand where needed will carry on. New pins and flags will be arriving with us shortly and will go out as soon as they arrive.

Masters Competition

A massive well done to Toby and Chris and their respective teams for organising all the entertainment and competitions around the Masters competition. Our Masters Lounge was received really well by our members, and it was great to see everyone getting involved in the event - we can’t wait to make next year's even better!

Upcoming Events

Our May quiz night took place on Thursday 5th May and was a great success. Keep your eyes peeled for more quiz dates!

We’re also extremely excited to present our outdoor cinema on 27th May 2022 showing Mamma Mia. We only have 200 spaces for this, so act quickly to grab your tickets!

A message from Lucy Teixeira

I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated to www.treesfortom.org after my father passed away last year.

I have been working with The Woodland Trust since then, as an impressive £120,000 was raised. The Woodland Trust found a piece of ancient woodland near where my father grew up and near The Pennine Way, which is now named after him. On 22nd March over 4,000 trees were planted with a stone seat with his famous words, "tomorrow will be a good day."
