A quick note to thank you and the team for all you hard work you put in for our charity evening. As I’m sure you could tell, everyone - kids and parents alike - had such a brilliant evening. Thank you for responding so well to our myriad of requests, from cramming in our guests, to decorating the room, coping with our very busy schedule, and for dealing with a bunch of excitable 13 year olds. The food was spot on and thank you for managing our last minute vegetarian so calmly. I greatly appreciated your efforts to help us keep our costs down so that we could write the biggest cheque possible to the charity. We made £3,400 on the night, and our fundraising for the year in total was £11,700. Providing a DJ at no extra cost was particularly appreciated. I’d be grateful if you would pass on my thanks to the team, who all worked hard and with a smile.
Over the years I have had golf lessons from many professionals, each with different teaching methods and all unable to make any significant improvement to my golf. Finally with Andrew I have found someone who is able to communicate so clearly and effectively what to do and what not to do that even I can follow it. Importantly the lessons have been fun because Andrew combines an uncompromising professionalism with an easygoing witty delivery. My golf has been transformed such that I have now taken up membership at Mapledurham and play regularly. I will keep having lessons as there is still so much more I can learn from him. !
I just wanted to pass on my massive thanks to the gym staff. I’ve really relied on the gym for a break lately and the team have been amazing. Since the introduction of daily Fast Fit classes at 09.30 I’ve really found that I can make it a part of my day, rather than juggling and trying to fit it in around work, kids etc. But on top of that, the instructors are so good and so friendly that it’s easily become a habit. The upside is that I’ve lost 5kg and feel as fit as I ever have done. Which is great because I have another challenge next year! Emily and Liam in particular are amazing, but also Ungudi and Ali and of course Dan. The reception team are also fantastic and the Creche is the icing on the cake! Claire and the team are brilliant. And I always get a warm welcome and great service from the whole bar team too.
Andrew has been invaluable in teaching me to play better golf. He makes lessons enjoyable, balanced to your needs and leaves you feeling positive about your game. He has a very approachable and friendly personality which for anyone joining the club, makes you feel very welcome and good for settling you into the club. My enjoyment of the club and the friendships I have made playing golf have been a direct result of Andrew’s influence. I would have no hesitation in recommending anyone to have golfing lessons with Andrew as I know they would benefit greatly. He has also organised for us to play at other courses which is great for increasing interest in the game. I cannot underestimate how important Andrew has been in getting me into playing and enjoying golf.
I have been a member at Mapledurham since 2012. I was coached through two pregnancies and a half marathon prep. The equipment is high-end, clean and diverse, but the uniqueness of the club lies with the fitness team. Their approach to your fitness journey is professional and tailored, but they all add a very personal touch - you really do feel like they are an integral part of your fitness journey.
Thank you for allowing BLCGS to hold our home matches at Mapledurham this year. Our visitors complimented us on the condition of the course and the meals. Our next event at Mapledurham is our Autumn Meeting in September and I am sure we will receive excellent service again.
I've always enjoyed exercise, from the gym and swimming to Pilates and yoga. Over the last 18 months I've been focused on losing weight and toning my body, as I'm getting married in South Africa. I've been having one-on-one personal training sessions with Elieser and my shape has really changed. Exercise and healthy eating have helped my lose 6 stone! Exercise is part of my life and keeps me focused on eating healthily too. I wear a pedometer and I log my food and drink. It's all helped me on my journey.
I've been a member of Mapledurham for nearly two years now, and try to come at least three times a week. In the last eight months I have really seen a huge change in my fitness and physique, due to the training staff at the gym and my mental attitude towards intensifying my training regime. This is exactly what I set out to achieve. I was never really a “classes” person but I've really enjoyed the boxing and boot camp classes, which take me back to my boxing days and are as intense as you make them. While I have attended many different gyms over the last six years, Mapledurham has been a gym in which I've really felt at home and as soon as I'm finished work, it is a great place to switch off and enjoy my evening, which stops me trying to find an excuse not to come. To sum it up, in the last eight months I have lost ten kilograms and gained strength, fitness and confidence.
When you reach your 40s with a healthy appetite for ale, meat, wine, and cheese and spend the best part of your day sat in an office wrestling with presentations, you begin to realise you have to find a way to manage your physical self to avoid becoming someone you no longer recognise. Since joining Mapledurham, I have participated in several sports events including half-marathons, hiking Kilimanjaro, mountain biking across the Alps and parts of South Africa and road biking in local sportifs. After a day in the office I look forward to escaping to the Club to physically challenge myself in a friendly, professional environment before relaxing in the pool and sauna. The result is typically an appetite for some more good food and a restful night's sleep. Thanks to the team who help create this environment.
My wife Fiona and I usually work out together. We really enjoy working out with each other and we both push ourselves a little harder because we can see the other one watching! We recently got married and I can say for sure that we both felt so much better about ourselves on the day because of the work we have been putting in at Mapledurham. Fiona in particular has seen real improvements in her thighs and core. I have seen her training change massively in the past year too; she now make the connection with the moves she is doing (squats for example) and exactly how that is going to improve her body. That is largely down to the trainers here that really make an effort to educate rather than just instruct. The benefits for myself include a better golf swing and performance when I play football. It also allows me to massively de-stress from work. When I come to the gym, it's not that I don't think about work at all (that's impossible!), it's that it gives me a place to think about the day logically. At home there is always a laptop and emails, however when I'm at the gym, it's just me and my thoughts, which allows me to make sense of the day.
